What's going on blog world? Two blogs ago I listed 5 inspiration points about self change and have know decided to do a series of blogs with a blog for each point. The first point that I am going to address is the power of prayer. I said that, "1. Try to pray every morning and every evening." because I believe that repetition is key towards dedication of anything and why not use something as powerful as prayer...
Throughout this summer, I have experienced more problems, disappointment, challenges and hurdles then perhaps any other season in my life and I am grateful for such. As I attempted to instill in one of my brothers, trials and tribulations only make triumph that much more appealing. The power of prayer comes in the fact that, I swear to you, each time I've truly felt like I was down and out and had the white towel in my hand, a blessing came to the rescue in several different forms. In my belief, this can be attributed to the fact that I pray regularly (even though I don't go to church regularly) and that is through the good times and the bad times. It is easy to have faith during the good times but it is a true testament to your character if you can hold on to your faith through the bad times. As human beings in an unjust, unfair world, we are going to face issues; some of us face them on a daily basis and some are blessed to not face them as often. Use prayer though to show your appreciation for the good times and to request strength in the bad times...
While my form of prayer originates from Christianity, if you are not willing to commit to that strong of an ideology yet, that is fine. You must be aware of the fact though that there is a being that is higher than you that placed you here and thus one that you owe your life to. Quoting perhaps one of the most influential Christian quotes I've ever seen, "I'd rather live life like there is a God and find out there is not one, then live my life like there isn't and find out there is." This goes much deeper then a surface level argument of just simple belief in God and Jesus Christ, but using the influence of God to establish a set of moral values to dictate your life...
The more you pray, the more you are acknowledging that you are not in complete control, the more that you are recognizing that you are connected to the world as a whole, the more the world as a whole improves. You want to live your life knowing that you did more then just look out for your self because that is not beneficial in there here and now and more importantly it is not beneficial to our future...
In closing, I hope that these words and heeded and if I haven't effectively displayed the power of prayer, I hope this at least begins some introspection towards what is really important in your life and what you as an individual can do to change it. Try prayer, He does answer whether you realize it or not. You're still here to read this right? So you still have the opportunity to take all that is for you in this world and prayer begins all of that. We all are more blessed then we realize but none of us are as blessed as we could be because we have not completely trusted God with our lives and foolishly attempt to drive ourselves. It's a rough path, let me say from experience...A life full of prayer is a life full of opportunity, admiration, respect, appreciation, strength and inspiration. And while a life without is not completely devoid of these traits, why take the risk?

Class of 09 Inspiration
What's going on blog world? I'm really becoming interested in becoming some sort of mentor and who better to reach out to then to the group that is entering into the same are of life that I am working with. I hope that you all are aware of the warnings/advice that I will bestow upon you already and that this is just a reminder. However, if this is the first time that you are hearing most of this then I hope it truly pays dividends for you...
First of all Congratulations of making it this far in life whether it has been motivated by your family or self motivated. You all have achieved a lot and don't dare allow anyone to tell you different. Someone that believes differently is a person that has forgotten the road that must be taken towards success. For the prospective students, you are getting ready to embark on a whole new world and thus you need a new attitude but this does not necessarily require a complete change...
If you feel that you have developed good study tactics in high school, know that they will pay off in College as long as you work towards enhancing them every day. Remaining stagnant is never a good thing, so know that change does harbor success. Do not wait until you are failing your classes to decide that you want to work harder at that point. You want to be able to perhaps be a little relaxed the further you go along because you have such a high GPA rather then having to dig yourself out of a hole that you built freshman year. Use your freshman year as a way of setting a good precedent for yourself because failure that first year is hard to overcome, but not impossible. But who does not want to do their best?...
Another key fact is finances. This is where college becomes the most difficult. For those that have plenty of scholarships and grants to cover their expenses, please know that they will take that money away from you for poor performance, so come in with the work ethic of a student with no leverage whatsoever. For those that are perhaps still searching for financial support, hit that scholarship trail hard as far as contacting your school and the particular major that you are in. Also, don't be afraid of taking out loans. Small amounts for loans are preferred so that they are manageable when you have to pay them back. There is no greater investment that you can make in this world then making one in your own future, so don't allow $500 to be the reason that you do not continue with your educational process...
I'm surely not forgetting those that are not going the college route and instead entering into the real world. While I do suggest schooling for all that I know, I do realize that school is not for everyone and I hope that by this point you have identified something that you may be comfortable with doing for the rest of your life. Remain dedicated to your goal and believe that you can achieve it. It doesn't matter if I believe in you, if your parents do, if all of Facebook does, because if you don't believe in yourself, you will achieve nothing. If you are going with the decision to take another route then school, then go at it wholeheartedly and trust that you have made a good decision. Self confidence placed together with talent and drive is an outstanding combination so I hope that you are able to apply all three to your life goals...
People always want to wonder why our youth go off to school and are overwhelmed by the new world that they have entered because they were so 'successful' prior to that. It is because these same critics do not reach out to the youth but instead want them to simply achieve it on their own. If you have no aid whatsoever in your life, I suggest that you take up Christianity as a strong motivating force. If you are reading this note, then know that whatever motivational words or advice that I can give you, I will, whether I know you or not or simply just through being Facebook/Twitter friends. Don't be afraid to ask because this is what I want to do with my life; help change the world by positively changing our youth. I wish you all nothing but the best with your upcoming endeavors and hope that if you see a homeless guy in the future with a camera around his neck, you'll toss him some change lol because he helped you out.

I'm So Enlightened, I Might Glow In The Dark
What's going on blog world? I had a quite interesting dream last night and it really inspired me to get up, at 9 in the morning to write. So you know this one will be good lol. The dream consisted of me going back to my old church and delivering a speech. I don't remember the particulars of the speech but I just really remember the effect that it had on the people. The church was packed with old friends and new friends and it was just good to see everyone looking as if a load had been lightened from their shoulders with the words I spoke. That's all I really want to do with this blog, help people have an easier road in life even if it's just a small change. I'm an idealist in the sense that I believe that simple words and actions can have major impact and today, I plan on passing on some of the simple actions that I incorporate into my life and see making a major change in my life.
1. Try to pray every morning and every evening. I believe strongly in the power of God/prayer/faith and thus I suggest it to all of those around me. For those that don't believe in God, of course I am impartial to my belief and therefore refer you to it but at the same I respect that. I just hope that you do realize that there is a higher power that has control over your life and I just hope that your life leads you to the same conclusions that I've reached about God/prayer/faith and that you use them to enhance your life.
2. Take time to pat yourself on the back. At times we all struggle with making the next major move in our life because we lack the finances to do it, we lack the faith to do it, or we lack the desire to do such. This is when it's beneficial to simply take a moment, look back at where you are now in life and where you once were. I guarantee that you will see a change and incidentally you should use the change that has already been manifested in your life to motivate your future. Positive change is not like lightning. It can strike twice as long as you are willing to fuel it.
3. Eliminate repressive forces in your life. This is a problem that I see a lot with people and myself. This can be addressed in a simple manner of STOP ANSWERING CALLS/TEXTS FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW FRUSTRATE YOU. Just like there is a reply button and an answer button on cell phones, there is a decline button and an exit/cancel button in the text message section. Those that simply call people for favors, for gossip, for drama, for self empowerment at the cost of depreciation of others are what are scientifically defined as leeches. Stop being host sites for drama if you truly want to be, want to be succesful.
4. Set a goal for yourself. There is a truly repressive ideology that I hear floating around that says, 'If you never set any goals, then you will never be disappointed.' On the surface level, I suppose that this is correct because if you never try to do something, then you can't fail at that something. This does not mean however, that you will never fail in life or be disappointed because no matter what, cconflicts, trials, and issues will constantly arise in our lives and must be addressed. It is a great feeling to know that you've set a goal and accomplished it. Also, let's say it's some chance that you don't succeed...who is to say that you were meant to have that goal. Your work on that goal can be used towards achieving another, perhaps greater goal. Let's all try to place our dreams in the sky and begin working on our ladders toward the sky. We're all closer to our dreams then we can see.
5. Assume responsibility. Now while I'm an idealist, I am still very realistic at the same time. There are forces in our lives that we have no control over, racism is still very well alive, as well as sexism and classism. Even with all of these repressive ideologies surrounding in our lives, you can't allow these to define what you will achieve in this world. You must take responsibility in the sense that you will not allow yourself to remain stagnant in this world. You must constantly work towards acheiving something greater for yourself, your family or your lineage and just know that along the way the road will be bumpy. Your responsibility is not to try to smooth the bumps out of the road. Your responsibility lies in your ability to manuever around the bumps and define a less bumpy road for the next person. There is no greater feeling than to know that something you have done has helped change someone else's life for the better because the domino effect of that is immeasurable. Hopefully, I began some sort of domino effect with this note blog and as always...

Tenancity in Real Life
What's good blog world? Got an idea from a high school friend about this blog topic and it came right on time. It's a feeling that's been dominating my life lately and some of my friends as well. I'm going to take a different route and start off with a definition of tenacious, the word that tenacity originates from.
In a nutshell, it's all about fighting for what is yours. I've gone through a lot of tumultuous situations this summer and have had to simply suck it up and keep growing. This is what I want to extend to my followers on Facebook, twitter, blogspot, anywhere I can reach. A friend of mine recently said to me that life has simply gotten harder in college and I replied that I am happy to hear that. While going through life problem free is something that we all seek, it is simply not realistic to hope for such. Experience is surely the greatest teacher and trials and tribulations do nothing but make truimph more appealing...
While we all would like to simply be handed everything on a silver platter, it is not the sum of things that we accumulate in this world that will be remembered. It is the lives we touch, the changes we impose, the youth that we influence, the relationships that we will build. As the Bible implies, it profits a man nothing to gain the world but lose his soul. Even further, it profits a man nothing to gain the world and not have a soul at all. Aim for greatness but please take the time to enjoy the path that must be crossed in order to get there...
As we become more succesful and grow in the world, it is important to remember whenever a tough situation is reached, the same steps that were taken to defeat a previous obstacle can be used for that situation. As long as you are living and breathing and have the ability to improve yourself, keep the faith in yourself and know that you can do better. The Lord puts no more on us then we can deal with so no task is unconquerable. As I said in a recent Facebook status, enjoy challenges and problems and keep the faith that your season for dominance is on the way. All is reachable as long as you remain tenacious and believe that you can reach it. All you have to do is stretch....

| 4. | adhesive or sticky; viscous or glutinous. |

The Effect Of Legacy On Mourning
What's good blog world? This has been a difficult week for the family as we lost a very important figure in our lives, affectionately known as Daddy Bill. His life as such a powerful figure allows me to reflect on my own life and perhaps help influence change in the life of those around me...
'Daddy Bill' will always be known for his commitment to our church and to our family and to me that is as honorable of a legacy that a person could leave. He constantly reminded us of the hard work that encompassed his life from his youth and simply tried to instill as much in our lives. Many people believe that they have to forcibly change the lives of those around them in order to be effective but a positive message and example serves a much greater purpose. The question I want to ask is how are we going to be remembered?...
At times, our generation is always criticized because we don't have the martyrs that were present in other generations but I believe that in time ours will arise just the same. Understand that you don't have to change the entire world to make your legacy but begin to make conscious efforts to have those around you remembering you in a positive way. Stop simply blaming it on your youth for your mistakes. While youthfulness can be accredited for mistakes, it cannot simply be used as a crutch. Always attempt to make your next decision your best decision and the grandest one that you have made. No one knows when their number will be called and they have to leave this Earth so preparations should already to be made for your life to be as glorious in the eyes of those around you as possible...
In the same way that you want to be remembered as positive as possible when you die, let's stop waiting to show our appreciation after we lose something. It takes no time and no true effort to simply show our appreciation for those that help us in our development. Being gracious and respectful in our endeavors make more people want to help us, so show respect and love to those in your life and it will be reciprocated to you. The domino effect of love can not be denied. The same time used for conflict is time that can be instead used for development, growth, love, and humanitarianism. You don't want to be remembered as a person on the verge of becoming a good person. It is much more fulfilling to be remembered as a changed person on the verge of changing the world one small step at a time....

Paris Jackson, Bill O'Reilly and Steve McNair
What's going on blog world? I've really been motivated to write lately and just like a lot of people, the case of Michael Jackson's life and the celebration or degradation of it by others has been on my mind much. A lot feel that the attention Michael Jackson is unwarranted and that there are more important issues at hand and I do respect that. This man did not have the effect on your life as he did on others so just as you want people to respect your opinion, allow those who choose to grieve in whatever manner to do such because the power and effect of music is immense...
The tearful ending to the memorial service for Michael Jackson should have accurately brought many back to the reality that this was a man just like anyone else. His daughter did not care what people said about him or what was alleged. All she knew that her loving and caring father is no longer with us and that is all that truly matters. Our job as human beings is not to condemn him because we have no true evidence of his life outside of music. All we can do is pray for his family with the same sincerity that we would want others to pray for us when we lost a family member. We have tangible evidence of his philanthropic work and his contributions to the music world will be long lasting so that is what truly should matter. When we stop attempting to be each other's judge and jury is when this world will be a much more peaceful environment for all...
That is where my disdain for Bill O'Reilly arises. I feel that it is cheap advertising for himself to attempt to try to attack the name of a dead man while his family remains in mourning. This is the side of Journalism that I refuse to enter because I believe once a person cannot defend themselves, it should be required to simply leave them be. What do people gain from talking negatively of the dead? All I see is possibly speaking the same evil that you are condemning into your own future.
With that said, I feel the same remorse for the McNair family as I do for his girlfriend because no matter how receipts are uncovered or traces are tracked, we will never know what happened between the two. All we know is that someone was neglected enough to the point where they didn't value their life and thus didn't value those around them. We, as a people, especially the Church, should take issue with this because it only requires simply reaching out to troubled individuals to change them perhaps for the rest of our lives. So the next time you think, 'what is wrong with so and so', it may help to also think, 'what can be done to help so and so'?

We never know when we will require the kindness of those around us, so our own kindness and humility must be own display to make others want to help us. Each moment that is spent towards juding others is perhaps another moment spent making the world worse in the future. You never know what effect your actions, comments, or words can have on those around you, so rather then condemining those that aren't living correctly, more efforts should be made to help that person change because disharmony among two will always result in disharmony in the world."I got deamons in my past
So I got daughters on the way
If the prophecy's correct
Then the child should have to pay
For the sins of a father
So I barter my tommorows
Against my yesterdays
In hopes that she'll be OK" - Jay-Z 'Beach Chair'

Self Sacrifice and Progress
What's going on blog world? I think this is the first blog I've written in a while that has kind of been influenced by my own current actions. I've been struggling with staying the course and keeping the faith with some of the major actions in my life but from some conversations I've had and my own soul searching, I've realized that I would not have been brought this far by God to simply be left here to fend for myself or even worse, to be stuck in this same predicament. So that's what I want to address real fast in terms of myself and just general terms...
I feel that as people get older and the challenges that they face begin to increase in difficulty, it is obviously more difficult to overcome them. However, I think these challenges are made even more difficult because people don't take the time to realize that they are stronger as well. This strength is not always so noticeable but with a little time and reflection it is evident. Strength is not measured in dollar amounts or social standing but in the inner character that those on the outside don't always see but is there nonetheless. I've struggled with trusting my own abilities at times and even with more pushing myself towards a goal but at the end of the day, your own support and your religion is all you really need to make something out of yourself..
It's very easy to doubt if what we are doing on this Earth is amounting to anything and I feel that looking at the end result can sometimes dismay people from achieving their goals. Now, I'm not saying that you should not hold on to your dream of graduating, starting your own business, going to the NBA, or whatever it may be...but don't worry as much about how long it takes to get to the end result. If you don't stop and take in all that is around you, you'll truly regret it at the end. You never want to forgot what it took to make you what you are. The time forming your character should be of the utmost importance. At the same time, as you are possibly struggling with achieving your goal, just hold on to the faith that this is all apart of the process of you becoming a success...

Belief in yourself is 90% of the battle because if you are not supportive of your own goals...who will be? There is no greater investment than in your own self (only perhaps topped by that of investing in your child) and you should eliminate all restrictions that prevent you from becoming the best, most positive, most succesful and most humble servant of this world that you can become.
