What's going on blog world? I knew that it wouldn't have been right if I had not given some time to Dr. Larry Hawkins. I didn't take full advantage of the program that he offered at the University of Chicago because I allowed personal problems with the processes involved in the program. However, I truly respected him for all that he has done for Chicago youth and for the stamp that he has placed on the sports world in Chicago and the education system. He's put more African-American students into colleges than most public schools can stake claim to and he shall definitely be missed. The words of the Reverend Mark Taylor at the funeral stuck with me because they truly captured the essence of Dr. Hawkins. The reverend gave us four ideas to work with in memory of Dr. Hawkins
1. Push Past Your Limitations
2. Every Joker Deserves A Chance
3. Play Until The Last Second
4. One Good Run Deserves Another
I hope that Dr. Hawkins is resting in peace right now because he has surely ran a good race and is well deserving of all the praise that he received at his memorial service on Saturday, February 7, 2009. I'm hoping that I'm able to reach nearly half the audience he did with my efforts such as through this blog or just my interactions with people.
